Overview
Shadow Play (proposed) calls burners to step out of the dark and join the shadow play. A moving light tower casts a mesmerizing dance of light and shadows onto large sails which cascade patterns upwards and outwards. Once inside, a control wheel for the light and shadow props invites visitors to become the art.
A bright spot in the dark, its dynamic shadows invite burners to stop and take a closer look. Once they enter the sculpture, they’ll find a maze of geometric fabric sails that leads to a central light tower. The sails come alive at night as they catch the shadows from both the light tower and burners. (They also provide shade during the heat of the day.) Inside the sails will be props and cushioned seating for visitors to stop and play. Outside the sails will be benches for viewing these shadow plays. The 14’ tall light tower contains bright halogen lights that can travel the full height of the tower via a roller chain controlled by a servo motor. The semi-translucent custom sewn panels attach to a rigid custom welded steel frame and are suspended on guy wires.
