Flux

Flux at sunset

Overview

Flux (2025) is a concept for an interactive light sculpture that transforms any environment into a dynamic performance space. The 14-foot tall reflective metal tower casts mesmerizing, ever-changing light patterns across surrounding ground and buildings through two powerful halogen bulbs that move smoothly up and down its height via a motorized system. The sculpture’s mirror-finish stainless steel surface reflects both the environment and the viewer, prompting reflection on one’s role in shaping the experience.

Conceptually, Flux explores the interplay between structure and change, drawing inspiration from both performance art and the fluidity of water. Its towering mirrored form provides stability while the shifting light patterns embody ephemeral, expressive motion. As visitors control the light, they shift from audience to performer, composing their own fleeting light and shadow compositions on the landscape.
